The lake was the last leg of the journey via steamboat to the Prospect House in Blue Mountain Lake, New York, which was opened in 1882 as the first hotel in the world to have electric lights in every room, thanks to the personal attention of Thomas Edison, who is credited with the engineering masterpiece.
